Testimonials

Bringing yoga back to its whole context of Unity.

Ana J

"Bringing yoga back to its whole context of Unity, this course speaks with clarity and grace. I've practiced yoga inconsistently for twenty years, and this course gave me courage and permission to have a "beginner's mind," to start fresh, to be open, without judgement. To throw out what I thought I knew and learn the essentials of breath, proper alignment, primary bases, opposing forces, and more. Julia's course has revived in me an inner strength and a belief that improvement comes with discipline and practice. I am also seeing how important it is not to separate the yoga practice from living. The same principles of care and attention to the body/mind I learned in her course, I am slowly integrating off the mat."

An essential tool for a lifetime practice.

Tucker S.

"When I first met Julia, about 10 years ago in Brooklyn, I was immediately drawn to her energy. At the time I had been practicing yoga very sporadically since the mid-90s but had trouble committing to a consistent schedule. Julia sets a tone and pace which is gentle and methodical and deeply spiritual and it spoke to the grace I was seeking. Her method appreciates every detail, every movement and asks us to slow down and honor the body and the routine as a ritual. This class series has allowed me to reconnect with Julia’s talents and gifts as well as to reset and refresh all that I thought I knew about yoga and to distill it to its foundation. She is a master of alignment, an advocate of compassionate discipline, and a nurturing spirit. This series is an essential tool for a lifetime practice."

This yoga practice is beautiful!

Kate M.

"This yoga practice is beautiful! I've tried several times throughout the years to find a practice that worked for me. The explanations and intension you bring into your videos have added the essence I always felt was meant to be in the practice but I wasn't quite finding. My body is opening and strengthening, and my spiritual practice is right there with me. I'm slowly going through the videos and really listening to what is offered. Thank you for doing this! I will have this for the rest of my life. And my soul into the next. I just really wanted to let you know how lovely and beautiful and special this is for me! Thank you for always showing us profound love and expanding our awareness. You are an incredible teacher."

"With much gratitude and a more open heart I thank Julia for this beautiful experience. After practicing yoga for 20 years I found this course to be helpful in stimulating my personal practice as well as a guiding hand in my Yoga Teacher Training. By taking a beginner's seat and time to really absorb and integrate Julia’s many lessons my practice has become stronger and more loving. Thank you thank you thank you for this lovely gift."

An impeccable knowledge of alignment and physiology, with an intuitive, artistic approach.

Meredith W.

"More than any other yoga classes I’ve attended, Julia's leave me feeling like I've participated in a well-rounded composition, not just a well-targeted aerobic work out. She combines an impeccable knowledge of alignment and physiology, with an intuitive, artistic approach. I've never walked away from her class without learning something new, feeling both mentally and physically relaxed and refreshed. Julia's yoga is a big and wonderful part of my life, and I advocate it to anyone looking to begin a yoga practice, or find more depth in their current practice.”

A wise and deep understanding of the complexities and mysteries within the human spirit.

Miriam C.

“For the past four years, I have had the pleasure of experiencing Julia’s yoga teaching and, more recently, her reiki treatments. I distinctly remember the first yoga class I took from Julia: I had never experienced a teacher as fluid, soft, or articulate as she is, nor had I ever left a yoga class with such curiosity about a teacher’s work, and respect for their presence. There is great integrity behind Julia’s teaching and healing, an attention to detail on a purely anatomical level, but perhaps more importantly, a wise and deep understanding of the complexities and mysteries within the human spirit. Her teachings are always purposeful, imbued with meaning, and extended with the utmost care and respect for the person standing or moving in front of her.”

She knows so much about the human body and is able to talk about it in a very clear, deep way.

Shana B.

”My favorite thing about Julia's yoga teachings is that her students get to benefit from her constant learning. She always has new wisdom and information to impart, which really informs the practice. She knows so much about the human body and is able to talk about it in a very clear, deep way. The most useful thing is her slow pace and patience.‎”

Meditative and inspired by nature.

Rachel C.

“Julia creates a warm, elegant, intimate, and incredibly nurturing environment within which to explore - and heal - one's body and mind. Her approach to yoga is so meditative, and I’m realizing more and more that her practice is inspired by nature, where patterns (and asanas...) repeat themselves. Deceptively simple! Julia's as much about the challenge as the reward, make no mistake about it. But by the time you slide into your savasana, you'll notice the feeling that you've been on a subtle journey, and you'll be glad you made the trip.”

Inspiring and informative to watch her physically demonstrate.

Kim M.

“I first met Julia at Go Yoga in Brooklyn and was drawn to her style of teaching. She sets a safe/nurturing tone at the beginning of every class. I love her sequencing, which is unique and has a natural flow. It is also inspiring and informative to watch her physically demonstrate each pose. I would highly recommend Julia for any yoga/mind/body teachings. She is a wealth of information for injuries, natural approaches to well being and has an incredible awareness of anatomy. Julia is an extremely unique teacher. I have been studying yoga for 20 years and have experienced many different styles of yoga instruction. Julia is gifted!”

I have learned from her classes that strength is more mental than physical.

Jennifer K.

“I have been practicing yoga with Julia Frodahl for over three years. What I enjoy about Julia’s practice and teachings is that they are not rushed with any time constraints. You truly are practicing yoga without the idea of getting to the end of the class. I have learned from her classes that strength is more mental than physical. I love that in a single class I can go from an overworking mind that is scattered and buzzing, to a mental state that is calm, focused and alert. People do yoga for a million different reasons. I went into her classes thinking I knew what I needed and her classes guided me to what was already there. Julia has a mix of calm and intensity. She will guide you to the proper alignment and help you to understand where you will eventually be in the pose, with practice. Her energy is real and deep. You can feel that she is truly a dedicated and present teacher.”

My Personal Yoga journey

When I wandered into an Iyengar yoga class at a stinky little gym in San Francisco in 1993, I had no idea that I was actually stepping into a meadow of enormous psychological, philosophical, and emotional wisdom. It wasn’t obvious at first. And in 1993, yoga was far from a household word. But despite the grumpy teacher and the dark and clangy environment, and though I didn’t know what I was doing or why, I kept going back. Something inside me knew yoga was something I needed. Twenty-nine years later, my yoga practice is in everything I do. It’s in the way I walk, the way I wait, where I walk, how I think, how I listen, and the words I speak. I couldn’t untwine it from my everyday life if I tried. Yoga was the beginning of the end of emotional pain for me. It connected me to my body, from which I had previously felt quite disconnected. Connecting to my body connected me to a sense of self and ultimately back to self-trust. After about ten years of personal practice, I earned my certification to teach from Alison West of Yoga Union in New York. I’ve been teaching, studying, and sharing this practice consistently ever since. Yoga is something rich and deep, and in the beginning you can only see so much. You can only see what somewhere inside you are ready to see. But then through the practice, you begin to change, and what you are ready for begins to expand. You see deeper, and deeper, and deeper. I hope you might step into this meadow of wisdom yourself. Let it transform you. And may you apply the poetry of the teachings to all aspects of your life.
